Hello my fellow gnomes! Due to the Primal Flamesaber mount promotion, there's a lot of interest in Heroes of the Storm. So, I thought, why not have a thread where we could chat about the game?

First of all, if you haven't tried it, I recommend you check it out. It's free. That's right. Free! No software to buy nor subscription costs to worry about. You can jump right in.

You earn gold by completing simple quests. You can use this gold to buy other characters.

Each character has their own abilities and their own strengths and weaknesses. However, Heroes of the Storm is a team vs team game. In addition, you never need to fight against other players if you dislike doing that. You can play against the A.I. all you wish.

Heroes of the Storm is a multiplayer online battle arena video game. The view is isometric. Here's a link that goes into the game in depth.

Also, there are websites that help a player understand how to build a great character by choosing which talents to take as they become available. As opposed to WoW, your character does not have a set build. You decide how to customize your character each battle. Cool, right? 😎

But, if you aren't into that level of min-maxing, that's okay. I'll be happy to hook up with you and play a game or two against the A.I. whenever I'm on HotS. Win or lose, the game is always a blast. 😀

Oh! Another thing. There is a cash shop. Let me put your mind at rest. No matter what you may have heard in trade chat, Heroes of the Storm is not a pay to win game. You can play the game well without spending a single penny on it.

Specific heroes can be purchased with in game gold or by cash.

Custom skins are cash only. These are mostly cosmetic although some will change your emotes and abilities. Many are quite attractive. Check out Dream Genie: Chromie, which turns our favorite bronze dragon into a genie. She is adorable!

Or see Deputy Valla: Valla, a skin which adds a wild west theme to my favorite demon hunter. Very nice.

There are also mounts which you can buy with cash although some are available with gold or by purchasing collector editions of other Blizzard games. Check them out. The art team did a great job on them. I particularly like the Void Speeder which looks like a souped up skateboard/surfboard. I'm clamoring for a variation to be added to WoW. Gnome on hoverboard. Go!

There are also collections of heroes, called bundles, which allow you to obtain a group of heroes more cheaply than if you had purchased them individually by cash.

Finally, we have stim packs. These are things that give you experience and gold bonuses over a period of time.

So.. as you can tell, Blizzard did a good job of offering a game accessible by us poor folk while allowing players with a little extra cash something worth spending their money on.

All and all, Heroes of the Storm is a fine game to play for those moments when you don't feel like playing WoW but want something to do or just to check out something a bit different than a MMORPG or you just want to beat things up a bit like you used to at the arcade. You get what I'm saying?

Download the game. Play through the tutorial and jump right in. You'll not regret it.
