The day of our becoming the first lvl 25 All-Gnome guild on the realm (possibly anywhere though this cannot be easily confirmed) is fast approaching! We cannot let an event of this magnitude pass us by without something appropriately Gnomish and epic to mark this momentous occasion!

So put on your best Gnomish Thinking Cap and reply to this thread with your most awesome, outrageous, most original ideas you can think of to celebrate the optimism, industry, and teamwork of all the amazing Gnomes who helped make it happen!

The time to start planning and laying the groundwork for something truly awesome is now!

Ok I guess I'll start off. I'll admit to being somewhat stumped for ideas. The few I have come up with so far havent exactly overwhelmed me with their originality and epicness. But heres what I got so far...

Lion Parade - Yeah I know not the most original idea, but still cool. We usually stop traffic whenever we get together. Gnomes on Lions would be that much more epic. We gather in SW, and everyone who is Exalted with the guild (work seriously on your rep!) buys the Golden King mount (1500g, 1300g with guild discount I believe), and everyone else mounts up on their Mechanostriders and we take a leisurely victory lap around Stormwind.

Video - Brixee suggested a music video similar to the famous Billy Joel one. And I had an idea about an alternate visual. Instead of random people standing around pressing lyrics macros, I imagined one Gnome (maybe me) walking through the city, and each time he/she passes another Gnome they fall in behind, until by the end of the video there is a very large number of Gnomes. A throng. A Gnome army. This would be a sort of visual metaphor for the guild, growing one Gnome at a time until BAM! LvL 25. I dunno, maybe I'm over-thinking this?

Gnome Party - I know what youre thinking, but stay with me for a moment. We host a BIG Gnome themed party, and we try to get everyone on the realm to attend with either their Gnome alts, or dressed in Gnome-inspired outfits (Goggles etc). To encourage attendance we have lots of gold and prizes to hand out, and perhaps give Gnomes and Tall Folk in Goggles a +5 bonus to their prize rolls maybe? Maybe we can hire one of the local DJ's to spin music for us? We could have fireworks and games of some sort.

Thats all I got so far.

To flesh out my idea:

I started with this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF5x_AS1yYw&feature=player_embedded
Which is a "Lip-Dub" of Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start This Fire". To be precise, the creator of the video calls it a "Bubble-Dub", but whatever.

However, as Forbs and I discussed the possibility of recreating such a video, we both agreed that it should not simply be a re-make. This would need to be a "Stand on the Shoulder's of Giants"-type thing. Meaning, we would need to add something to it to make it our own production. When you watch Dark Endeavor's video, the one thing that you'll always notice is that there are the same 3 Druids "singing" the chorus. That little thing makes the video, and makes it distinctly Dark Endeavors. We would need to come up with the same kind of hook. Something to make the video distinctly ours.

Once I got set on making this video, I wanted to see what other guilds did for 25. There aren't really a lot of videos out there - at least that I could find. I did decide on one thing. We aren't doing this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ygZsuo7Bl8

Unimpressive. Unimaginative. And a few other words beginning with "un".

This is a not bad at all variation on the Lion Parade:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldsxrjO1fn4

The current stumbling block right now is a suitable piece of music. Sio presented a list on the original post, and I went through them all on YouTube to hear if there was anything that have the right sound, tone and meaning I was looking for. "Don't Stop me Now" by Queen, and "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles are 2 that I felt had potential.
I also paid attention to what was on the radio. For a while, I heard nothing that I liked. This could also be a comment on my view of the current state of the music industry, but that's a discussion for some other time. But then one day, I heard a song I kinda liked, but wasn't sure. So, I listened for it, and the more I heard it, the more I liked it. It's called "Tonight" by Seether:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGLwAjU27xc&feature=related

Now, I'll be the first to say that the style of music isn't quite my cup of tea. But what caught my attention was actually the lyrics. They have potential to say what I'm looking for. The original intent of the lyrics is that he loves her so much, he'd yell it from the rooftops, and that they would have a life together until one of them died. But what I like is that you could, if you listen right, interpret the lyrics as a Guild growing together.

I'd still like to get the actual lvl25 ding built into the video, however, if that realistically proves to hard to manage, it will have to be scrapped.

I have no doubts that this will be hard to do. It will require patience on everyone's part, and regular participation for rehearsals. However, when all is said and done, such a video will not only promote us, but WrA. And I think we'd be dayum proud of ourselves for pulling it off.

Like the video idea as well as the huge party...think you should do the lions parade regardless but that's just me. However it looks like I missed the original music post; but if you want to do a montage-ish video w/ Forb starting and then everyone else falling in line I think you need something that starts off rather slow and then pickes up momentum and crescendos towards the end. However I do have a song or two to suggest: "We built this city" by Starship might work. Thought of another epic one when I first saw this but it's not coming to me right now. Will reply if I can think of it.

OMG!

Forbs! FORBS! Someone other than you, me and Sio is posting on teh forums, and giving an opinion! =D

I had strongly considered "We Built This City", but the one thing that discouraged me was the next line - "...on Rock and Roll". WrA is an RP server, and I felt that using such modern terminology would not be appropo. That's just my feelings. However, should the majority of people say "enh...don't worry about it", then this song should be placed very close to the top of the list.

If you go to YouTube and search for lvl25 guilds, you will find quite a few that are simply most of the guild members standing around beside the Guild Vendor until the Guild dings, then you get the joy (?) of watching them buy their mount and equip it. So, speaking for me, I would rather not make that part of the video. It's been done. I have no objections to having the parade, I would just prefer that it not be part of the video.

This video's not too bad. Absolutely love the music for it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_577203&v=FonpBkNVdRQ&src_vid=Qs2bhYJa1wk

But, again, it's nothing unique. I did find it amusing that they're a 25 guild, and they did a parade outside Org, but only had 4 (I think) Lion mounts in the group.

Anyhoo, "We Built This City" with lyrics:

i think classical music offers lots of options that arent modern- the ride of the valkyries while we level up, flight of the bumblebee while we run somewhere that sort of thing. i also think the ideas should spawn from the combined powah of gnomes!

Yeah I had thought about that line not working as well; but thought that I should suggest it at the very least. I do have to say that a video depicting us sitting around waiting for the 25 ding and getting a bunch of mounts and going around in a parade is kind of...well lame and apparently over done.

I like the idea of a commemorative video, and I like two videos you linked:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldsxrjO1fn4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_577203&v=FonpBkNVdRQ&src_vid=Qs2bhYJa1wk
Although I think with a bit of imagination and work, that we can do better than both of those. The music in the second one is the new Night Elf zone music added in Cata. I like that too.

I suppose to further muddy the music selection waters I'll drop a few links that will mostly just serve to document how old I am =)

Like a Rock - Bob Seger
Take it to the Limit - Eagles
Smooth - Santana
The House is Rockin' - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Make it Big - Beach Boys
Years May Come, Years May Go - Irish Rovers
Almost Anything by Kitaro =)

I remember watching the Irish Rovers on tv when I was in elementary school. I loved it when they did the Leprechauns!

An idea I had to create......curiosity, I guess....in what we're doing: once we get the event settled on, start creating posts on the Comm. Forum with UNGUILDED alts with statements along the lines of "I saw a buncha Gnomes from G4 doing (insert peculiar activity). Anyone know what that's about?". Some of what is posted could be true, some a red herring. Just stuff to create some interest.

People sometimes take this approach to troll forum threads. However, it actually takes surprisingly little effort to find out who an "unknown" character belongs to if the person is a regular poster on the realm forums. All you have to do is put the alt on Ignore, and then look for posts from people you know that disappear as a result.

I've been silent on this, because i honestly have no idea what to do for lvl 25. I just took a look at Brix' little video, and... that seems like a good idea, i think.

All i really want, is that whatever we do, it's not some thing that's going to be extraordinarily elaborate. Keep it simple: simple is good. Having to organize events that anyone can join is out of the question, for me: NOT interested. Helping out to make a guild video (by participating as best i can) however, is much more feasible, for me.

if we go for the video, we may have to re-stage fun things we've done to put into it- the laser show, the tonk controller contest, the riverboat parade etc. Im up for it. I might think about different music. I like the Ride of the Valkries- has a nice martial tone to it and makes us sound like we are boldly pushing our way forward. Give it a listen y'all and see what you think

Know this thread is a wee bit dead but wasn't sure on where to post this:

Had a thought for the music for the video Men at Works "Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive" Personally I think its lyrics are very gnomish

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlhlHHUHhi0

The song actually starts at the 10 or 11 second mark.

Last night in OOCchat, Cog suggested this piece of music:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmgnja9gkx0&feature=related

It's a very beautiful piece of music, I must say. This, by the way, is the studio version (as best I can tell).
Forbs replied that he already had an idea for a machinima using this piece, and so, I would prefer to use it sparingly in our proposed lvl25 video.

Yep thats the studio version.

Found another pretty good song after that as well "The Truth" by Audiomachine. For this I think I'll post a couple of different videos for it. One with some action and various things in the background and one without for a couple reasons but mainly I felt that it was more epic sounding with visual action going on as opposed to just a picture.

1. The video I found the song on. This was made in honor of the 125th anniversary of Arsenal Football Club in England. Most of the visual stuff is events that have occurred in the recent years:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObP5H2YYKeY
and

2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVpOQTRhSUk.

Personally I feel that this has an epic feel of being able to conquer/do anything...but thats just me

THIS is the live version of Local Hero that I was referring to, and in my opinion far superior to the studio version.

Local Heroe - Wild Theme Live

The song needs no lyrics, they would simply detract from the beauty of the melody and the artistry of Mark Knopfler.

As I mentioned I have an entire machinema scripted out in my head set to this track (featuring Gnomes of course) but the crowd noises would be quite out of place. Also some of the imagery in my head would be difficult to do in-game, and would require some visual trickery that wouldnt be easy to do, so like many such projects kicking around in my head it will probably never get done.

On the other hand, if you like the epic movie trailer soundtrack sound, and who doesnt really? Almost anything by Two Steps From Hell will probably do. I'm just not sure we could craft equally epic visuals to go with it =)

A Few Examples:
Forces of Destiny
Heart of Courage
Elementum
White Witch

So, this was featured on WoWInsider today in the Moviewatch section:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbf-wffpibs&feature=player_embedded

I think that's got to be one of the best Guild videos I've ever seen. Good choice of music, nice selection of videos (both guildees putzing around and raiding), with a small selection of ss to boot.

Hehe I saw that and had to run before I could post it on here. I liked that to minus the cover of Africa, idk if you saw this but about the 3 min mark there is a ss of a heart made out of items in the gb. I think it would be fun if we did something similar only to look like gears.
